14/30 Looking Glass 3.0 – Up the Mountain

Dustin is… awkward. Everest used to be the Elvis of mountains. Climbing Everest got you in the history books. But Sherpas climb it all the time. And now, with advances in insulation, communications, and climbing gear, anybody can. It’s like a trip to the beach, except it’s really cold, and there’s no oxygen.

Climbing Ishinca Mountain Peruvian South America

www.enriqueexpeditiontours.com Itinerary: Access to Ishinca Valley is by private transportation (taxi) arranged by our company to the village of Collon or Pashpa, which constitute the starting point of the trek. The approach trek is 4-5 hourts on a well marked trail that follows the Ishinca Valley to base camp at 4200m. At base camp there is a cabin built by Italians, where it’s possible to spend the night. The base camp gives access to URUS (5495m) and ISHINCA (most frequently climbed due to their accessibility for the less experienced climbers) as well as the north and east face of RANRAPALCA(6162m) and PALCARAJU (6110m), both very difficult climbs. Day 1.- leave Huaraz on private transportation to the village of Collón or Pashpa, where we meet the donkeys and arrieros that will help carry the climbing gear. Here is the starting point of the trek to base camp, which takes about 4-5 hours depending on the trekking pace. The base camp is found at 4200m. Day 2.- early start from base camp to Ishinca Lake(4 900), at the end of Yanarajupampa valley. We climb a few ramps to a vast col between the two summits of Ishinca. Continuing the ascent, we reach the final slope that leads to the summit (5530m). Day 3.- return to the village of Collón o Pashpa where we meet the private transportation to take us back to Huaraz.

TIMES: Top Seattle climber dies on a remote mountain in Tibet

TIMES: Top Seattle climber dies on a remote mountain in Tibet
Even before Joe Puryear left the University of Washington with a degree in math, it was clear he would never spend enough time indoors to use it. The climbing bug gripped him so fiercely even then, in the early 1990s, that scaling mountains or rock spires couldn’t be just a hobby. Somehow he’d have to make it a career. And he did, becoming a mountaineer of such renown that companies sponsored …
