I have used the Pontas Lace up for grade V alpine big wall climbs, traditional cragging at the notoriously technical faces of Looking Glass, NC and on the overhanging routes at the Madness Cave in the Red River Gorge. The rubber is sticky, they give a SOLID edging platform, they fit very comfortably, and the rubber on the sides gives good protection in cracks. They are not as sensitive as their velcro counterpart, nor do they perform as well on overhanging terrain. I have made this shoe my first choice for techy trad and cracks.

I've worn the Pontas Lace for almost a year now and they've climed with me through Connecticut, Southwest Utah, and all over the gym. Hands down the best climbing shoe I've ever worn. The Edging is excellent, the heel is excellent, and they're comfortable. Being lace up they give room for comfort or you can tighten down and get that precision fit you expect out of a high performance shoe. As long as this shoe is around it will be in my quiver.

I am having a hard time coming up with good things to say about these shoes. They are the worst of 5 pairs of climbing shoes I have owned. I will never buy Evolv gear again. These shoes suck, plain and simple. They fell apart like they were made of paper. Average smearing and edging, stinky after a couple of climbs. What's not to hate? Oh, heelhooks were ok, thanks to laces. Evolv customer service made me wonder if they believed they were the only shoe maker out there in the world. They taunted me, I kid you not.
<br />I have only myself to blame for making a mistake, for trying something different, something not made by Sportiva or 5.10. I stand corrected.
