Tallest Indoor Rock Climbing Wall in the World (proposed)

Hugest Climbing Walls Ever?

Is This The Hugest Climbing Wall Project Ever?

Similar to the climbing silo Rocktown, in Oklahoma City, Amsterdam architects (perhaps under the influence of the local favored flora) proposed turning these huge abandoned sewage treatment towers into huge climbing wall towers.

All I can say is I hope this gets built- since I don’t care much about that favored flora, this is the only reason I can think of for visiting Amsterdam :-)

How to Build a Climbing Wall Video

This crazy video compresses the hours long process of building a climbing wall down into a very short 11 minutes.

Ok that’s not very short. I’m glad they sped it up. Probably the only good thing about it is that it has the Mission Impossible theme music behind it. I think the impossible mission was “make an interesting video”. LOL

You can and should fast forward- the framing takes the longest and should have been sped up quite a bit more. Really only the last two minutes is worth watching.

Build an Indoor Rock Climbing Wall Yourself! Part I: Introduction

adjustablecustomwallAll right, so someone probably thinks you’re crazy because you want to build your own rock climbing wall, or you live by yourself and that’s because everyone already knows you’re crazy.

Well forget them- let’s do it. Here’s a guide to some of the best rock climbing wall building resources on the Internet.

While you’re building, take some pictures, contact me, and send em! I’ll put them on the site if they’re not too weird.

Overview of what you need to build your rock climbing wall:

  • Climbing holds – once you get the wooden frame built, the type and arrangement of climbing holds is really what makes your wall
  • Wood – you’ll need 2×4’s and plywood sheets to build the frame
  • Tools – more on that in the next steps
  • Tenacity – to not leave an unfinished useless hulk in your basement, attic, or backyard.
  • Music – to listen to while you work!

Check out this video to start to get the idea:

More steps coming soon!
